# Homoeopathic medicines are sugar pills. 

Fact: The sugar pills are not the medicines, they are ONLY VEHICLES, which are used for dispensing the medicine.

# Why only sugar pills are used. 

 Reason and fact:  The fact is that sugar pills are not the ONLY vehicles used. The small sugar pills are called Globules. They are made from cane sugar( sucrose).

As it is a disaccaride ,sucrose is easily absorbed into the body, it is inert and has high absorbance for the medicine.

The other vehicles used for intake of Homoeopathic medicines other than Globules are

• Pillules

• Cones

• Tablets

• Sugar of milk

• Distilled water

• Syrup simplex. 

Apart from this, many other vehicles are used for preparation of mother tinctures, for external application of medicines etc.

Homoeopathic medicines are prepared from plant extracts, animal products and parts, minerals, other natural resources and (tautopathic )synthetic sources.

Medicinal extracts are (Soluble substances )are dissolved in alcohol to form a "mother tincture". One part of this tincture is added to 99 parts of alcohol and succussed (shaken). This yields a 1C potency (one part per hundred). 

This process of serial dilution and succussion is repeated to form further potencies.

If the medicinal substances are Insoluble, they are triturated (ground up) with lactose. One part substance to 99 parts lactose (milk sugar) yields a 1C potency. Serial trituration is continued as above to achieve the higher potencies. After several serial triturations the mixture is now soluble and the processing can continue with alcohol.

Homoeopathic medicines are prepared strictly according to the Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia of each country.

In India apex body of quality control and standardization is' The Homoeopathic Pharmacopoeia Laboratory' (HPL) (1975) under the ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India(GOI). Subordinate institute is the department of ISM & Homoeopathy, GOI. It is recognized by Dept of Science & Technology, GOI as Scientific, Technological and Research Institution. It is recognized as the Central Drugs Laboratory – for testing of Homoeopathic drugs (under Rule 3A, under section-6 of D &C Act). Functioning as standard setting-cum-drug testing laboratory at National level.
